Date: 9/26/2024 Time: 8:56 PM Jurisdiction- Hopewell Township 
Type of Incident: DUI 
Accused Name: Charles Evans 
Accused Address: West Broad Street Hopewell Borough, NJ 08525 
Investigating Officer: Brandon Kuzma 

Details: On September 26, 2024 at 8:56 PM Officer Kuzma observed a vehicle stopped, running with it’s lights on, on the side of Aunt Molly Road. The vehicle’s registration was shown to be expired. Officer Kuzma approached the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Charles Evans, was found to be exhibiting visible signs of intoxication. Evans was asked to step out of the vehicle and performed field sobriety testing roadside. At the completion of which, he was placed under arrest for DUI. Evans was transported to HTPD for processing and later released. Evans was charged with DUI, Open Container, Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Reckless Driving. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.

Accused Name: Natalie Beckman 
Accused Address: Hansens Corner Titusville, NJ 08560 
Charges: Theft 

Details: On October 3, 2024 Officer Stanton met with the victim of theft at the HTPD lobby. The victim stated that two of their political lawn signs were stolen. The lawn signs were placed on a property on Hansen’s Corner and were stolen. The signs were moved on one occasion and then stolen on another occasion after being placed back in their original location. Through surveillance video and follow-up investigation, Officer Stanton was able to identify the suspect as Natalie Beckman. Beckman was charged on a summons with two counts of theft. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.

Date: 10/3/2024 Time: 6:51 PM Jurisdiction – Hopewell Township 
Type of Incident: Burglary 
Investigating Officer: Ryan Finnegan 

Details: On October 3, 2024 Officer Finnegan responded to the Brick Farm Tavern on Hopewell Rocky Hill Road for a reported burglary from a vehicle. The victim stated that their vehicle was broken into while at the restaurant. The rear passenger side window of the vehicle was shattered and a Rolex duffle bag was stolen from inside the vehicle. The bag was valued at $895. The matter was investigated on scene and followed-up by HTPD detectives. The investigation is ongoing.

Date: 10/5/2024 Time: 12:27 PM Jurisdiction – Hopewell Township 
Type of Incident: Fraud / Theft / Criminal Attempt 
Investigating Officer: Brandon Kuzma 

Details: On October 5, 2024 Officer Kuzma responded to Sinclair Gas Station location on South Route 31 for an attempted Fraud / Theft. Store employee reported that a subject attempted to make a purchase of tires for over $2,000. However, the credit card information supplied was denied. The subject called back a number of times with different credit card numbers and continued to be denied. It should be noted that this location was victim to fraudulent purchases of tires in Spring of 2024 as well. All credit card information and phone numbers were forwarded to HTPD detectives for continued follow-up on this case. The case is active at this time.

Date: 10/5/2024 Time: 8:04PM Jurisdiction – Hopewell Township 
Type of Incident: MV Stop 
Investigating Officer: James Stanton 
Accused Name: Douglas Mathis 
Accused Address: Overbrook Ave Trenton, NJ 08618 
Charges: Hindering Apprehension 

Details: On October 5, 2024 Officer Stanton conducted a motor vehicle stop on a gold Chevy Impala at the intersection of Bear Tavern Road and Jacobs Creek Road. The stop was made for speeding and maintenance of lamps. Upon the vehicle stopping, the front passenger exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Officer Stanton made contact with the driver, Douglas Mathis, who refused to identify the passenger of the vehicle that fled. Mathis was ultimately arrested on scene for Hindering Apprehension. 

He was also charged with speeding, maintenance of lamps, and driving with license suspended/revoked. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.
