Chief James Rosso

Chief James Rosso joined the Hopewell Township Police Department in November of 2003 as a patrol officer. Chief Rosso has served in many roles and liaison positions within the department, including traffic officer, field training officer, supervising firearms instructor, and training coordinator. Chief Rosso was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2017 and Lieutenant 2021.

Chief Rosso is a graduate of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police supervision program, the Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, and is an FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award recipient graduating from the Supervisor, Command, and Executive Leadership Institutes.

Chief Rosso earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Public Administration. Contact Chief Rosso.

Captain Louis A. Vastola

Captain Louis "Gino" Vastola joined the Hopewell Township Police Department in November of 2002 as a patrol officer. Captain Vastola was a patrolman exceling to the traffic division in 2006 then moving into the detective bureau from 2015 to 2019. Captain Vastola was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2019 and served as a patrol supervisor. Captain Vastola was promoted to Lieutenant in 2022 and was the Operations Commander overseeing the patrol division, and the traffic unit. In September of 2026 he was promoted to the Captain position. This position previously was unfilled for the past 21 years. Captain Vastola has completed the prestigious Certified Public Managers program through Rutgers University. In his new position, Captain Vastola will oversee both the operations and administrative functions of the Department, Contact Captain Vastola.

Lieutenant Joseph Maccaquano

Lieutenant Joseph Maccaquano joined the Hopewell Township Police Department in September of 2010 as a patrol officer coming to us from Pennington Borough. He served in the patrol division until being moved into the traffic unit in 2013. Lt Maccaquano was then assigned to the detective bureau in 2016 and remained there until he was promoted to Sergeant in 2020. Lt Maccaquano functions as the department’s Administrative Commander, overseeing Internal Affairs, records bureau and the detective bureau. Contact Lieutenant Maccaquano.

Lieutenant Nicholas Sparaco joined the Hopewell Township Police Department in April of 2013 as a patrol officer coming to us from the Seaside Heights Police Dept as well as Auburn Maine Police Department. He served in the patrol division until being moved into the detective unit in 2022. Lt. Sparaco was then promoted to Sergeant in December of 2022. Lt. Sparaco has earned the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award, and continues his education currently attending Fairleigh Dickinson University for Public Administration. Lt. Sparaco functions as the Department’s Operations Commander, overseeing the patrol division, K-9 unit, crossing guards, traffic safety unit and community partnership unit. Contact Lieutenant Sparaco.
