Pedestrian Struck – Hopewell Wertsville Rd.
HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP – Earlier today, a 33-year-old Hopewell Township resident was involved in a pedestrian vs. motor vehicle crash, on Hopewell Wertsville Rd.
At approximately 4:52 PM on Sunday, June 16, 2024, Hopewell Township Police Communications received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle.
Officers responded to the scene and discovered that a 33-year-old township man was in crisis and ran into the southbound lane of travel on Hopewell Wertsville Rd. The victim made impact with the passenger side of a passing vehicle, which was being operated by a 63-year-old Princeton resident. The impact caused the pedestrian to fall, and his right foot was subsequently run over as a result.
Responding officers and Fire/Rescue personnel discovered that the pedestrian suffered from a compound fracture of his right ankle. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
The driver cooperated fully with the police investigation, and it does not appear that charges will be filed at this time.
The crash is under investigation by Det. Christopher Collins of the Hopewell Township Police Department, with assistance from Detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
